There’s an amusing thing about current trends: we passionately follow the 80s and feel nostalgic about the 90s. Design is cyclic but this obsession with retro is going beyond the limits. But, hey, we are retro-addicted too, so no judging, just some mind-blowing 90s typography that’ll make you reminisce of the funkiest times ever.

As we were gathering the typefaces for this selection, we noticed that it was hard to attribute the popular 90s fonts to a single visual style. Probably, this is when typography became so multifaced and started to expand in different directions. From one side, there was a massive focus on neon, which is a legacy of the 70s and 80s. From another, there were catchy over-simplified VHS and pixel fonts. And that’s not to mention the rise of ultra-minimalist, sporty sans serifs and, of course, the eye-popping sitcom fonts — like form The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air or Hélène et Les Garçons.

In fact, we’re not sure there is such versatility of styles in 2021! So even if the 90s weren’t the time of your life, or you’re just not so fascinated by their aesthetic — at least, it’s great to sip inspiration from those old-school types.
